5 Wines to Enjoy from Chris Schneider

5 Wines to Enjoy from Chris Schneider at Wine4.Me/blog

About Chris Schneider

“I have worked in the restaurant business since I was 18. Today at 30, I still love interacting with new guests every day. Guiding them towards an amazing wine choice they love feels great every time. When I’m not talking wine I love to travel, work in the yard at home, and dine out at my favorite spots in town.”

Chris not only suggested wines, he also paired them with his favorites on the menu at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in Houston. (Convenient, huh?)

Chris’ Top 5 Wines to Enjoy

One white wine under $20 and widely available in the US:

  • Gavi La Scolca White Label

No one does white wine quite like the Italians, and because of this I pick the Gavi La Scolca White Label. This wine is fantastic for a hot day on the patio or paired with a fine meal. When paired with pasta and shellfish the Gavi really shows its adaptability. The fresh, dry style of this wine is great for any occasion, and for $18 its a great choice.

Food Pairing: Shell Fish Plateau including Alaskan King Crab, Jumbo Shrimp, Oysters on the half shell, and chilled crab claws $77 for two people

One red wine under $20 and widely available in the US:

  • Four Vines “Maverick” Zinfandel

For a $15 red look no further than Four Vines “Maverick” Zinfandel. This wine delivers super ripe fruit flavors with just a hint of pepper which adds some nice complexity. The best thing about red Zinfandel is that it is a crowd pleaser. When you have a large group over, red Zinfandel offers something for everyone.

Food Pairing: Smoked Tenderloin Nachos with BBQ Seasonings $12

One splurge (whatever splurge might mean to you):

  • Schrader CCS, Beckstoffer Tokalon Vineyard from California

My splurge wine is an incredibly hard wine to get your hands on. Schrader CCS, Beckstoffer Tokalon Vineyard from California. Schrader is one of the best expressions of “Cult” California Cabernet Sauvignon that I have tasted to date. It offers lush red fruit, super silky tannins and a texture rarely experienced in other wines. While this wine is basically unavailable at local wine shops you can find it on some wine lists for around $600. Let’s just say if someone offers you a glass of Schrader don’t pass up the opportunity.

Food Pairing: Our Signature Double Eagle Bone-In New York Strip is perfect for this wine $65

Two others of his own choosing (these may be either easy or hard to find):

  • Bodega El Nido “Clio” from Jumilla Spain

My first wine is a fun wine that over delivers for around $35. Bodega El Nido “Clio” from Jumilla Spain is a blend of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell. I hand sell this wine to people looking for an interesting new wine that drinks like a big California red. This wine has a deep, bold flavor that just keeps getting better with every sip. I have sold dozens of bottles of Clio to guests that have never heard of it, they always love it.

Food Pairing: Bone-In Prime Ribeye $51

  • Ken Wright “Canary Hill” Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley Oregon

My last wine would have to be the wine that started it all for me. Ken Wright “Canary Hill” Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley Oregon. This wine cost about $35 and I can still remember the first time I had it. Ken Wright changed my whole perception of what a great wine could be. Such a complex nose paired with super smooth tannins and amazing mouth feel. If you enjoy Pinot Noir this is a must try.

Food Pairing: Veal Porter House $43

Have you tried any of theses wines or visited Chris at Del Frisco’s?
