It's true that we love highlighting quick and delicious recipes here in our wine pairings. However, sometimes it's fun to switch things up and choose a recipe that is a bit fancier. This Duck with Red Wine Mushroom Sauce and Lentils from Savory Simple is one of those fancier recipes that takes about an hour to prepare. With pan-fried duck with a red wine sauce served over French lentils with kale on the side, it looks well worth the effort. Especially when you can enjoy it with one of these red wines.
Now that it’s officially fall, the weather is cooler, the days are shorter, and people begin to hide indoors for meals. But I still love having friends over to share a meal, and this time of year we start turning to comfort dishes. Earlier this year, I had the honor of traveling to the Jura mountain region of eastern France to learn about Comté cheese, the prized cheese of the region. Comté, a hard cows milk cheese made with strict regulations and only within this small region, is similar to Swiss Gruyère, and as I discovered, is incredibly versatile. It’s absolutely delicious on its own with flavors and textures that range from light and creamy to hard and nutty, depending on its age.
This recipe for Poblano Chile Enchiladas from Life as MOM is fabulous. Once the chiles are roasted, assembling the enchiladas is simple. Round out the meal with some beans and rice and a glass of wine, and you're all set.
In my last post, I wrote about some of the less usual suspects when it comes to summertime grilling. Since steaks and burgers get all the glory when it comes to outdoor cooking, I wanted to focus on other proteins like fish, tofu (I’m serious!), and vegetables. My previous post included a recipe for grilled halibut with a savory sausage lentil salad. This time we’re going full vegetarian!
If you're not lucky enough to live near an In-N-Out Burger, give this recipe for The Best Cheeseburger Ever from Stuck on Sweet a try. Inspired by the "Animal Style" cheeseburger at In-N-Out, these seasoned beef burgers are loaded with toppings -- lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, and a special sauce. This meal comes together quickly, so it's great for busy evening or a weekend gathering. Add a glass of wine and you've got a great meal.
