It’s not a myth. Wine and food do impact one another. A particular wine can increase or decrease your enjoyment of a meal, and your choice of meal can affect your enjoyment of wine. Taking a few moments to consider the pairing of wine and food can drastically alter your enjoyment of both.

How to Pair Wine and Food with Wine4.Me

You don’t need to be a wine expert or have a sommelier on hand to pair wine and food successfully. You just need your Wine4.Me app. Whether you pair wine with food or food with wine, the Wine4.Me app can help you in your selection.

Scenario #1: You read Amy’s recommendations for great Valentine’s Day wines and picked up a bottle of Rodney Strong Estate Pinot Noir to try in the near future. You want to serve it to friends (who are big fans of Pinot Noir) this weekend when they come over for dinner, but you’re not sure what to serve with it. How can you choose meal to complement this wine? Check the Wine4.Me app!

How to Find a Meal to Pair with Your Wine of Choice

  • On the home screen, scroll down and tap on Find Food/Wine Pairing.
  • The Wines tab will be highlighted in burgundy and you’ll see a listing of wines that are recommended for you based on your personal wine profile that is created and updated as you rate wines within the app.

From here, either:

  • Scroll down to find the wine that you’d like to serve and tap on it.
  • Or, type the name of the wine in the search box, scroll down if necessary to find the exact wine, and then tap on it. (In the right image above, you’ll see Rodney Strong Estate Pinot Noir was typed in the search box and brought up the wine’s name in the list.)

After you tap on the name of a wine, Wine4.Me will provide for you a list of possible meals to pair with that particular wine, and you choose one to prepare (or order in).

So, for example, Baby Back Ribs or BBQ Brisket would be great options to serve with this wine. If you were to scroll down, you’d find even more suggestions.

Scenario #2: You’re out on a date with your significant other and decide that you are in the mood for some Salmon with a sweet glaze. How do you find what wine might complement it?

How to Find Wine to Pair with Your Meal

  • On the home screen, scroll down and tap on Find Food/Wine Pairing.
  • The app defaults to showing the list of recommended wines first — you can tell by the Wines tab that is highlighted in burgundy. To switch to the food list, click on the rectangle that says Food at the top of the screen to switch to the food list.

From here you can:

  • Scroll down to the type of food that you would like to have.
  • Or, type the name of the dish that you’d like to have in the search box.

Once you tap on the name of the dish, Wine4.Me will suggest some wines that will pair well with it. These wines will be listed in order of your personal preferences.

For example, during a search for “Salmon with Sweet Glaze,” the app might suggest a Hogue Riesling or a Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir. Although the app contains many wines that can be found easily at your liquor or grocery store, it may not suggest anything that the particular restaurant (or store) has available. If that’s the case, try selecting a wine of the same grape variety as the app’s suggestions. If you like it, take a moment to tell us at Wine4.Me so that we can consider it as a future addition to our database. Alternatively, you can select the recommended wine that’s unavailable at your store and then use the “Wines Like This” feature to find a wine with a similar taste profile.

And of course, after you’ve enjoyed your meal, be sure to rate the wine in the app and make notes on whether or not you enjoyed the pairing.
