From a Child’s Playhouse

Founded by brothers Mike and Gary Hogue, The Hogue Cellars is now a well-recognized name in Washington wines, but it got its start in a child’s playhouse. In the 1970s, Mike started growing 6 acres of Riesling grapes on their father’s land. Although he originally sold those grapes to other wineries, he eventually decided to try making his own wine in the early 1980s. Mike and a friend crafted the first batch of wine in Mike’s backyard in his daughter’s playhouse and were so pleased with their success that Mike and Gary decided to create The Hogue Cellars.
