World Cup Wine Picks – Saturday, June 21

Argentina versus Iran

The Argentina team has control of its own fate with this one and it is the clear favorite to win the match. Plus, they produce delicious wines whereas I can’t say I know of any wines from Iran. Jon of Hand of God wines selected a Malbec to cheer on Argentina in today’s game -Diseño Old Vine Malbec (~ $10)

Germany versus Ghana

This should be an exciting game, especially for the Americans watching, as the result will play into whether the US continues. The US wants Germany to win to put Ghana out of the running, but Ghana is a really good team– The US was lucky to have beaten them. And the Germans are always fun to watch. Of course, they make outstanding wines, too.

So what should you drink while watching?

Well, we don’t have any wines for Ghana, but for Germany, here’s what the two Jameses had to suggest:

James King of the Texas Wine School went with the Weingut Donnhoff Riesling Trocken (~ $20), whereas James Brock suggests Joh. Jos. Prum Riesling Kabinett (~ $26) I think either one would be delightful!

Nigeria versus Bosnia & Herzegovina

Sorry everyone. No wine picks for this one. You’re on your own.
