I built Wine4.Me because selecting wine you truly enjoy shouldn’t feel like a gamble. It should be easy and fun… and easy to change with your whims!
Here’s the story.
In 2009 I took a trip to Napa with my husband and two other couples. We had an absolute blast. But the whole time I kept wishing there was a tool that could help me find wines I’d personally enjoy, based on how they actually taste instead of scores or medals. Just flavor.
We tasted a lot of beautifully-made wines, and I liked some more than others. I wanted a way to be able to know, before opening the bottle, what other wines I would love, based in actual flavor data.
Well, there wasn’t such a tool. So I went back to vacation mode and filed it away. A year later I decided to stop waiting and build it myself.
Wine is personal. It should taste like something YOU like. And your taste changes moment to moment. That’s not a problem… That’s the whole point of Wine4.Me
I started doing the research. I consulted sensory scientists, winemakers, wine educators, and worked with an applied mathematician to figure out how to collect accurate perceived flavor data, what flavor to measure, and then what to do with that data to make sense of it all.
So I got to work.
What I built eventually became a real-time flavor filtering system: Tell it what you want right now and it shows you wine styles or specific wines that match. No app. No account. No expertise required.
The 2 key insights we based everything on are that:
- Flavor data matters. It cannot be created by assumption.
- Our preferences change.
Some nights you want something light and crisp. Other nights rich and bold. The tool had to reflect that. And it does.
After years of listening, testing, and refining, Wine4.Me became what it is today — a free tool that meets you where you are, every time.
Since 2015, wineries, wine shops, and event producers across the globe have used this tool to help their guests find wines they’ll actually enjoy. Quickly, at the point of decision, without needing a sommelier standing next to them.
Each instance runs on its own customized database… That’s what makes it work at scale.
The tools on Wine4.Me are free for any wine lover to use. The Wine Style Selector works anywhere in the world. The Texas Wine Style Selector is built specifically for Texas Hill Country wines. And the Women For WineSense Selector connects you with wines from 17 affiliated wineries.
Plus the technology is used in a white labeled form through VineSleuth at wineries and other wine sellers.
