Wine4.Me is a free tool that matches you to wine by actual flavor, not scores, medals, marketing copy, or a chatbot’s best guess. Tell it what you’re in the mood for right now, and it’ll show you exactly what to grab, off this list, off that shelf, or off any bottle shop on earth.
In 2009, on a trip to Napa, I kept wishing for a tool that could tell me, before I opened the bottle, which wines I’d actually enjoy, based on how they taste, not on scores or medals. There wasn’t one. So a year later, I built it myself.
Taste is personal, and it changes moment to moment. That’s not a problem to work around. It’s the whole point of Wine4.Me. Whatever you’re craving tonight, the tool adjusts with you.
To build it right, I worked with sensory scientists, winemakers, wine educators, and an applied mathematician to develop a precise tasting method and an exceptional recommendation process, one that measures how a wine actually tastes instead of relying on how someone described it and suggests wines based on how people actually choose wines. Every wine in our database goes through a flavor-mapping process. The result is a flavor database built on measured data, not marketing language and recommendations based on individual preferences.
That distinction matters more than it sounds like it should. Ask ChatGPT, Claude, or Google to recommend a wine, and you’ll get an answer built from whatever’s been written about wine online: tasting notes, reviews, marketing copy, blog posts. That’s language about wine, scraped and reworded. It’s not data about how the wine actually tastes, and no amount of clever prompting fixes that, because the underlying information was never there to begin with. Wine4.Me works differently. Every flavor attribute in our system comes from an actual, structured tasting, not from what someone wrote about the wine after the fact. Real recommendations need real data. That’s the whole premise.
What I built is a real-time flavor-filtering system: tell it what you want right now, and it shows you wine styles or specific wines that match. No app. No account. No expertise required.
After years of listening, testing, and refining, that’s exactly what it does today.
Since 2015, wineries, wine shops, and event producers across the globe have used this tool to help their guests find wines they’ll actually enjoy. Quickly, at the point of decision, without needing a sommelier standing next to them.
Each instance runs on its own customized database… That’s what makes it work at scale.
The Wine Style Selector is free to use, anywhere in the world, any time you need it.
Found something you loved? Send the link to whoever’s opening the next bottle with you. That’s basically how this whole thing has grown.
The same technology also runs in white-labeled form through VineSleuth, my wine data company, inside wineries and other wine sellers’ own sites and tasting rooms.
Good wine shouldn’t require a decoder ring, and finding it shouldn’t depend on a guess dressed up as an answer.
That’s why there is Wine4.Me.
Run a winery, restaurant, wine shop, or event? Wine4.Me can power the same flavor-matching tool for your guests, built around just your wines, through VineSleuth.
Curious? Let’s talk.
I’d love to send you a short weekly email with wine tips, stories, and what I’m thinking about in the wine world.
